Obama's Timing: Going After Guns There is a lot of worry going on about a new Senate bill slated for 2010 to force reporting of guns on income tax returns for "tax purposes," as a not so subtle form of National Gun Registration, which Obama aggressively supports.
Won't happen. NRA supports 43 of the 65 Pro Gun Blue Dog Democrats, and most will lose their seats as they did under Clinton, if there is a bill signed in 2010.
Also, it's much tougher to enforce a "look back" law for current inventory and collections than simply tax the heck out of new firearms sales to destroy the industry itself, while going after ammo at the same time with State level "serial number" laws for ammo. Get into reloading NOW!
2011 is the most likely year for going after taxation of firearms, but it is doubtful that those you grandfather before that will be attacked, including the ammo you now have. But stay vigilant, it's a lot easier to make ammo "illegal" just like NFA firearms than it is to confiscate it.
The key question is: will there be another major terrorist attack before then? If there is, Obama will be too swamped with regret and criticism to send law enforcement after our own citizens' guns-- they will be seen as having much better things to do protecting us. Well, they SHOULD be seen that way NOW, before the event--- but 20/20 hindsight is the way of DC, regardless of party.
